Interview with Katherine Scheil, Professor of English at the University of Minnesota & Director of the Citizen Shakespeare Project

In the nineteenth century, Shakespeare spanned the Atlantic, reaching from Birmingham all the way to the civic culture of the USA.

In this programme, Professor Katherine Scheil makes connections between Birmingham’s forgotten philosopher, George Dawson, and America’s Shakespearean heritage.

Katherine is Professor of English at the University of Minnesota and Director of the Citizen Shakespeare Project, a global initiative which promotes Shakespeare’s role in civic life.  In collaboration with Ewan Fernie, she is researching the influence of Dawson and the Birmingham Shakespeare Memorial Library in America.
